He died of prostate cancer while serving two life sentences without parole at Michigan Prison for the murders of Helen Dutcher and Gloria Steele, although his death toll may have passed 80. Watts claims to have started fantasizing about the torture and murder of girls. and young women at the age of 12. During his teenage years he began to spy on girls and allegedly killed his first victim before the age of 15. On June 29, 1969, Watts was arrested for sexually assaulting 26-year-old Joan Gave. Upon trial, he was sentenced to Lafayette Clinic, a psychiatric hospital in Detroit.
